Why it's important to set an intention for the week ahead
We all need to take a moment at the beginning of each week to truly reflect on what we want out of the next seven days. Setting an intention is such an important part of doing this – it gives us focus, direction and clarity on our priorities. With an intention that resonates with you, you can be sure to make the most of your time: it helps ground you in your purpose and keeps you energized for the challenges ahead. Taking time to form a positive intention at the start of each week can have a huge impact on your productivity and emotional wellbeing, so why not try spending five minutes today reflecting on how setting an intention each week can benefit you?
How to use the "I am" statement to set your intention
Starting your day with intention is a powerful exercise that will have an impact on the rest of your day. One way to set this intention is to use the two powerful words of “I am”. When you start your morning with these two words, it sets your commitment in stone and starts you fresh each day. Saying “I am” followed by a positive statement can create something magical. It does not matter the size or magnitude of what you are setting out to achieve; rather, speaking with clarity on something makes it more tangible and real. Before starting any task, take time to pause and say an “I am” statement that reflects the type of energy you want to set off for yourself – this will help to give clearer direction as well as focus on what you'd like to achieve that day. The beauty of doing this every morning is that it moves away from tangible goals into just being present in the moment and allowing yourself permission for an amazing outcome without trying too hard for it.
The difference between an intention and a goal
Setting an intention is a powerful practice that can help you to focus on positive attitudes and feelings as well as to gain clarity. It’s also often much easier than setting goals. Whereas goals normally involve striving towards something outside of ourselves, setting an intention requires looking inwards and creating smaller but attainable steps towards our desired outcome. Setting an intention involves feeling connected to the heart of your truth, allowing yourself a strong sense of faith and lightheartedness in order to attempt it. When setting your intentions, try using the phrase “I am” followed by whatever word or phrase resonates most with you. This tool will help manifest your desires while still maintaining a grounded connection with reality and staying present in the moment.
An exercise on how to set your intention for the week ahead
Starting each week with an intention is a powerful way to set the tone for the days ahead. Taking the time for this exercise can help your week flow more smoothly, as any attempt put out into bettering yourself and your life will be multiplied as you use it to influence every action you take. It's easy to get caught up in our day-to-day obligations, even just the monotony of tasks and forgetting where we want to take our lives. That's why setting an intention at the start of the week can be particularly helpful. As an exercise, try using "I am" statements to set your intention; these power words can help create clarity when resolving how you want this next week to go. Remind yourself that intentions are not goals, rather they are guiding principles that create energy behind what needs and deserves to get done this week.
5 Minute Daily Meditation To Set Your Intent
Find a quiet and comfortable place to sit for your daily meditation. Make sure that you won't be disturbed during the exercise.
Take a few deep breaths to center yourself and calm your mind. Inhale deeply through your nose, hold for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth.
Visualize the week ahead of you and think about what you want to achieve or focus on. This could be anything from completing a project at work to spending more time with your loved ones.
Using the "I am" statement, create an intention statement that reflects what you want to achieve or focus on. For example, if you want to focus on being more productive at work, your intention statement could be "I am focused and productive this week."
Repeat your intention statement to yourself several times, either silently or aloud. As you do this, try to really feel the words and let them sink in. Imagine yourself embodying the qualities and characteristics of your intention statement.
Take a few more deep breaths, and then slowly open your eyes.
Carry your intention with you throughout the day, and try to stay mindful of it as you go about your activities. You can even write it down and post it somewhere visible as a reminder.
By setting an intention for the week using the "I am" statement, you can help focus your energy and attention on what's important to you, and create a more purposeful and fulfilling week.
Tips on how to keep your intention in mind throughout the week
It is absolutely essential to remember the intention you set at the beginning of your week. To help keep this in mind, an excellent practice is to use the phrase "I am" to anchor it in your mind. This can be done through affirmations and mantras that remind you of what you intend to do. It's also important to remember there is a difference between setting intentions and manifestation goals - with intention, you are focusing on qualities and states rather than achievements and outcomes. Taking a few moments each day specifically dedicated to embodying these intentions will not only make them stronger, but also set up a powerful resonance within oneself throughout the week.
Setting your intention is a powerful way to start the week, and can bring about positive changes in your life. Taking the time to think about what you want out of each day, and setting an intention can help increase feelings of positivity and joy. The exercise above is meant to create clarity regarding what our wants, values and desires are from the new week ahead. Remember that an intention is not a goal - it's more like a roadmap for how we want to approach each day. Keep repeating your "I am" statement throughout the week to keep yourself focused on your desired mindset. And if you find that you've gone off course during the week, take some time to reset your intention and put yourself back on track. Setting intentions is a powerful tool for managing stress, anxiety and helping us stay focused on achieving our goals!
